Hello – can you advise on correcting Single Post Views numbers? For example, this article, posted at 14:24 BST today immediately showed 1700+ views.
https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2025/07/08/new-releases-june-july-2025-a-b/
I have WP Super Cache installed and have enabled Ajax Post View count in Theme Panel. I deleted cached pages in WP Super Cache. Still I see 1700+ views, “acquired” in 15 minutes.
I must be missing something.
In the element settings I have tried both “WP-PostViews plugin” and “Theme Post Views” as post views source. No difference.
Thanks
Mark

I don’t work here, but suggestions:
a) make sure you have stuff disabled that get pinged by bots all day long (XMLRPC etc.)
b) make sure not running [2] hit counters at once, as you instantly double all “hits.” (Easy to test, go to page, and hit reload, see if you get 2 hits or just 1, on an older page.) Check the custom fields for a post, to see if more than one data field setup for ‘hits’ like from old plugin and new one/theme.
Hi Mark,
I just checked the counter and this is working – https://i.imgur.com/YVB2Qnh.png each visit/refresh on the article is counted – https://i.imgur.com/rzb07OK.png
Thanks – but it’s not just duplication. The article published with over 1700 views. It showed 1700 in WP admin even in draft.
Hi Calin – it’s certainly adding new views each time you go to the page. The point is, it’s was showing 1700+ at publication, even in draft. I’m not sure you’ve understood that.
Ah – now I see the source of the problem. I have been cloning existing articles as template for new articles and this carries over the post view figure! Ridiculous. Anyone know how to zero the post view count?
Hi,
The theme keeps the post views for each post in a custom field. Duplicating a post would explain it, the views are duplicated as well.
The custom field can be seen in the post edit screen https://prnt.sc/OwDRkL1KiWMp here https://prnt.sc/iZpLo6h1Gbjk So it could be modified manually per post. Please try it. Let us know if we can help.
Thanks!
Wow – that’s very helpful, Simion. I didn’t know that field existed and zeroed the counts on my cloned posts in the database as advised in a Google AI search – a much longer process!
Many thanks
MG
