I am having a problem (not sure when it first started, only noticed it today while fiddling with widgets) where the smart sidebar does not work on Google Chrome – works fine on Safari and Firefox.
Traced the issue down to my CDN (maxCDN). When I switch that off, my smart sidebar sticks correctly. Do you have any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

Likely they are minifying a js file somewhere and breaking that.
But that is just a total guess.
Please make sure that you disable html/css/js minify option because usually the automatic compression of these resources could cause issues like the one you describe above.
We don’t recommend using an autominify tool as this could generate js conflicts and break features that use js to function, like in your case smart sidebar did.
