Smart sidebar with Google ad – why not?

Hi,

in THEME PANEL – LAYOUT SETTINGS – TEMPLATE SETTINGS – SMART SIDEBAR says that “If you plan to use Google AdSense in the sidebar don’t enable this feature. Google’s policy doesn’t allow placing the ad in a “floating box”, you can read more about it here.”.

Link “about it here”: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/1354742?hl=en

It is not exactly written anywhere on the link. Where does it say that I can’t have a smart sidebar ad with Google ad?

Thank you!

Hi,

Seems the link is not pointing in the proper place for some reason. It should lead to this page I believe – https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/1346295?hl=en&ref_topic=1271508

The mention is here – http://prntscr.com/nqsgwb

I will make a note of it and it will be fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks

Hi,

thank you very much for the explanation. So is it possible to set Smart Sidebar separately for articles only and keep the standard sidebar (without sticky function) in categories? I don’t have Google Ad in articles but yes in categories.

Thank you!

Using default predefined post templates and category templates, the smart sidebar (when the setting is enabled in the theme panel) will apply to both.

If you don’t want a sticky sidebar in category pages, you could use a cloud category template, here are some examples – https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Category
A cloud category template can be imported (and modified if needed) or designed from blank.

In a cloud templates or pages you can choose if you want a sticky column or not

So regardless of the general smart sidebar option being active, you can configure the template sidebar column to not be sticky.
