I am new to wordpress and no zero code, so any replies need to be very basic, here is my problem
I am set to launch my site this Friday and I set up links to my facebook page and pinterest page and they both used to work; however, now instead of linking to: http://www.faceboook.com/mypage when I click on the icons in the header or footer they dont go to the facebook page, but rather to my website url with the facebook or pinterest link at the end and thus I get the 404 error.
To summarize, when I click on the social media icons instead of getting:
http://www.facebook.com/mypage
I am getting sent to:
http://www.mywebsite.com/www.facebook.com/mypage
WTF? Did I change a permalink setting for this without realize it? Anyone know what to do to fix this?
No the links do work but because of the way that WordPress handles these types of links you need to include the http:// or https:// infront of the link because otherwise its going to treat it as a link on the current website.
You fixed my problem! I added http:// and they now work. Perhaps tagdiv should consider adding a note on the page where we input our social links (links must include http:// in order to work). I suspect a more technically trained person would have known this, but this seems totally illogical to me. I really appreciate your help. Seriously, thank you Volnus!
