Social networks & web stats

Hi all,
I have one question that maybe isn’t related with theme, but I’m not sure… 🙂
Since our website was launched just three weeks ago, I’m sure you’ll understand I regularly check our stats with various online stat websites and tools. Of course, there is some discrepancy between real and shown numbers – especially with visitors stats – I’d say it’s normal. But I see something that is pretty weird: when showing stats regarding our social networks, many sites show very low numbers. For example, right now we have 993 Facebook likes, but many sites show that we have 1 or 2 likes. Similar low numbers are shown for shares, Twitter followers etc.
It makes me asking myself did I do something wrong with settings or should I add links to our social networks accounts somewhere in our theme or do something else? Of course, I added all of this to Theme Panel>Social Networks and I also use Jetpack Sharing & Publicize addons…

What else could I do?

Some sites can be blocked by FB’s API for doing “too many stats checking” — some of the junk “test my site for free” services out there. And FB often gets overloaded so stats being pulled via their API don’t always show the correct info. If you got to your FB page and it says 993 followers/likes… then that is what you have.

Obviously the plugin included with theme is pretty accurate, but it depends on whether the API is working on the other side or not.

Upshot – if the free testing sites can’t show accurate stats, then don’t use them 😉
