I noticed that posts on search result page are not sorted by date.
Is there a way to get latest posts on top?

Hi,
The sort order in search template should be by latest, you can check it also on our demo – http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/?s=
Try to disable all your plugins except of Visual Composer, clear cache and see if you still have this issue. Also if you have some custom modifications to the theme files please remove them.
