The load time of the Newspaper Theme seems to be very slow compared to other themes. I love the theme and will be using it although I need to get the load time down before it can be beneficial else Google will likely not rank well. Before Newspaper theme load time was 1.28 seconds and after the theme was changed to Newspaper its at over 3 seconds.
My question is, does anyone have advice on speed improvements as well as consolidation of the 14 or so CSS stylesheets that load each time the page loads (caching plugins aside since Bots will likely not be effected)?

I have installed WP Super Cache and WP Minify so far and it has improved everything a good bit. Next step was to see how the Google Adsense code is being added, did you use asyncronous or syncronous? If its not async you may want to update that in the next release since it seems to improve speed quite a bit.

Also an issue that I am having that I just can’t seem to figure out is my analytics is showing “Page Not Found” errors but not 404 somewhere. The error shown in analytics doesn’t seem to hit the 404 page though and was happening before any plugins where added. I am running WP 3.6.1 and just can’t seem to find the issue.

first of all sorry for the long delay.
– google adsense is added by just echo-ing the code you enter there in the body of the page at the bottom. It is async by default from google.
– Your site is already very fast and I think there is not much you can do for now. I will try to push the theme more in the following updates.
for the 404 error – can you get the urls that have that problem?
There doesn’t seem to be any pages that 404 since i ran through the site and also have a script to log all hits to the 404 page although I get a page found called “Page Not Found” its really weird. I will continue to try and find the issue and will let you know what I come up with but for now its kind of hard to explain.
