Sticky Posts on Homepage

Sorry for the probably obvious question, but what’s the best way to pin posts to the homepage (so it’s only showing the ones you want)?

Thanks!

I use the ‘featured’ category and put those posts I want ‘featured’ in the category to show top of my home page, as in a slider, etc.

Thanks Chris. Another dumb question – this assumes you’ve created a new page called “Homepage” and then set the settings on that page to feature just that category. Per these instructions:

https://forum.tagdiv.com/homepage-newsmag/

Is that right? Thanks again!

Yes, or you can even have a sticky section up top, and then “latest” in a new “row” but set the ‘don’t show duplicates’ option, so that the top area would take precedence (e.g., row one); so that way you could have a row with featured stuff, and then another row with “the rest” by date vs what you highlight.

Nice thing — you can play with it …
make one page, make it live;
then make another page, mess with it, and then if you like new one, switch that one on as the static home page 🙂

Chris, our newspaper site is now live: http://www.eCoronado.com

For the homepage block, we are showing featured articles. However, we are not able to change the order of featured articles as it just shows the most recent first. If we modify the date, the permalink changes so that’s not an option.

I’m curious, is there a way to use the ‘sticky’ checkbox under visibility? We have tried using ‘sticky’ but those are not showing up on the homepage.

Ideally, we want to be able to change the order of the featured posts so we can pick and choose what goes in the main big image and not have it selected by most recent post.

Thanks for any help.

Hi @sejpost

Sorry for the delay, we somehow missed your post.
To display some specific posts in a block/grid you can add them into a specific category, or add a specific tag only for those posts, then add this specific category/tag in block’s filter: http://screencast.com/t/VDu8yr2k so the post with that specific tag/category will always be displayed in block.

Hope this help.
Thanks!

Hello guys.

I have a similar problem too. I have an article, written last winter, which is included in the “mushrooms” category. Since the article is in season, therefore very current, (the winter mushrooms) I would like it to appear in the first place, or in any case on the home page, and more exactly between the articles of the first and most important block of my site, without having to submit it to the rule of precedence of more recent posts.

To bring it to the first page I went to the “Visibility: Public” menu and through “Modify” I put the check on “Highlighted on the homepage” save and public but the article does not appear in any part of the front page grid, not even in the one grid dedicated to the “mushrooms” category. In the “mushrooms” category I have only random posts and not the post I forced to be on the home page.

I tried to put other articles on top of the page, but none of these articles goes to the home page. How can I solve this problem?

I solved by creating a widget that contains the main photograph of the article and putting a link to the article in the title but this is not correct and the effect is not the same as having the article in the grid of the most recent and prominent posts.

If necessary, this is the link to my site to see how I solved the problem and how it looks. The article I would like to move on first place in home page is “Andare per funghi in inverno” trivero-italy.it
Thank you

I apologize, I didn’t realize I was in the section dedicated to Newsmag instead of Newpaper but I think the operation is the same. The “search” menu has brought me into this discussion.

Hello angelogiovi,

Unfortunately, this kind of option (Stick this post to the front page) does not work for our theme, sorry! Notice that our theme has been made to work dynamic and you cannot have any control over each post from the blocks or Grids. The general sorting for posts can be found here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/ Also, if you want to display a certain post at the top of your front page, you should try using to add the ID for that post, using the post ID filter, like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/V59HNnI8NDzD

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the message!
