We have several articles that have more views registered over the last 7 days then they have in total. This happens at articles published in the last two weeks. We have installed the newest version of Newspaper on May 18 and that is also the first day it seems to go wrong.
I noticed this in the database when viewing the details of a post with phpmyadmin and comparing post_views_count_7_day_total with post_views_count.

Please check the overall count, not the 7 days sorting view count. The post_views_count is the one you should check as a reference. the 7days post count only counts from when you activated the sorting option and is a separate counter used for the sorting. That does not represent your total views. Also the post views are affected by cache so please use this option if you have a caching plugin: http://screencast.com/t/5H8PirlBt1p

Thanks for the quick reply. I know that the 7day post count does not represent the total views, but that is exactly why I want to be able to use that option. The sorting option was activated shortly after we started with the web site, so that can’t be an issue (and the ajax count view option you mentioned is activated). So this leaves me with the same issue since the latest theme update (and is not affecting articles published before the moment we updated the theme).
Is anybody else having the samen issue of can you reproduce it? My questions are basicly still the same:
1. What is causing the 7days post counter to register extra views
2. Why is post_view_count not affected
3. What can I do to get the correct number of views logged at post_views_count_7_day_total

Upon more testing It seems there is an issue regarding the 7 days post views that is explained here:

Unfortunately we have not found any viable solution for this yet. We will fix this as soon as we can implement a better 7 days sorting.

Thanks again for the quick reply, much appreciated. Reading back the mentioned topic I noticed that the issue has been known since February. The solution is not easy as I read, but can you give us a timeframe for this? Back in February the answer was also that you would try to fix it as soon as possible in a next release. That was three months ago. I hope it doesn’t take another three months?

I cannot provide a time frame for this unfortunately as like you said it’s not an easy fix and there are many implications for it. I cannot say for sure when we will fix it. We hope we can come up with a solution quickly to dodge other theme elements as they are all ‘tied together’ and changing one thing affects the other. SOrry for the inconvenience caused by this and we will do our best to fix this as soon as possible.
