Hi do we have this option in Newspaper ?- System UI font stack to first option of font choices – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2017/08/system-ui-font-stack.png. I saw this implemented recently in many magazine themes.
I implemented this couple years back, and I think this is noted in my long winded 2 year old optimization thread in the best of tutorials section.
Right now, you’d need to manually edit the style.css, and then unhook the two default google fonts from the big functions file.
Would be nice to have it, as I had suggested long ago — but now it’s been well documented for many folks that Google fonts via CDN don’t impact site too badly, esp in Chrome where they get cached when using the most popular fonts (meaning they don’t get reloaded on your site visit if already there, so no speed impact).
Not sure that helped.
Check my long winded thread, starting from newest to oldest, not oldest to newest post.
“but we cannot include everything.” – My question was do we have the option of System UI font stack in the theme. I have not at all asked to add/include everything.
Bogdan – Amongst the complete support team, i see your answers are rude. Why do you do that ? or is that how you respond to questions ?. Stop being rude to your customers. Be helpful instead !!
Basically, the answer was that most sites are using Google fonts, and it’s advertised as such to create a custom site with unique design. To *not* use Google fonts at all, unfortunately, at this time, you would need to modify the code yourself (as I did), or hire somebody to do that.
Bogdan is not rude, he is just short and to the point. “we cannot include everything” is the answer — wasn’t rude at all. Not everybody needs the same things — “most” people want the flexibility of custom fonts or system fonts (e.g., using the built in font stacks like Georgia, blah blah….
The system font stack used by WordPress currently is a good option, but even that is getting updated once Safari 11 supports the ‘system ui’ font properly everywhere.
Anyway — I wrote a how-to on moving to a system font stack, as I said — but you would need to do this yourself, or hire somebody to do it. Theme doesn’t support a ‘system ui’ font stack out of the box, at this time.
Not enough people have requested that to put it on the dev map.
( I don’t work here; just using the theme for 3+ years )
Thank you Chris for backing me up. A beer on my behalf 🙂
@techpaced
Sorry if I sounded rude but in some cases we are ‘bombarded’ with many, many requests and it is hard to be as explicit as possible. We try to be efficient as possible and sometimes we can get misunderstood for being rude. I can assure you it is not the case. What I was trying to say above was there is no easy way to do it. There is no alternative. If an option is available in the theme, then it has to be created and that is not easy in most cases. It requires time and effort put into it and we cannot provide customization services unfortunately.
Thank you for your understanding.
