TagDiv composer – choose category tag

Hi there, i’ve just rebuilt my homepage using the tagdiv composer at https://billyscrashhelmets.com.

In the first content block you see (below the intro text), I’m displaying the category tag next to each helmet – but each of those helmets has 3 categories assigned and I want them to display a different category from the one they’re showing ‘All helmet reviews’. Is there a way for me to choose which category name is being displayed? I’ve tried changing the primary category to see if it’s choosing based on that (which would work) but it seems to be just choosing what’s displayed based on alphabetical order which is a bit pants.

Any ideas on how to get it to display a different category in there? thanks.

Hi,

Please check the Block Settings guide from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/block-settings-guide/ where you can see the available settings of the blocks. If you want to choose which category name is being displayed, you can select it from here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/EaXSSdbFb If is not what you mean, provide more details so I will be able to provide a more accurate response.

Thank you!

Thanks. But I want to filter by a particular category tag and then display a different category tag (the primary category). At the moment, I filter by ‘category 1’ and if I display the category name, they’re all the same – i.e. they display ‘category 1’ or whichever is alphabetically first.

So is there a way for me to filter the content by a category but display the article’s primary category name on the page? As I say, some of my articles are in multiple categories to it’d be useful to be able to choose to display a different one.

Make sense (and thanks again 🙂

Hi,

I have made a quick test with the primary category settings, it seems to work as intended. Note that this is the setting provided by the theme – https://forum.tagdiv.com/primary-category/

Maybe you are using the primary category setting from Yoast – http://prntscr.com/n4hysr This will have no effect, only the theme provided option in the post settings section will work. Let us know.

Thanks

Ah fantastic – that’s worked!

Well I’ve been selecting the primary category from the categories box on the right hand side panel in the classic editor view (below the publishing box and above the tags box). Isn’t that a core wordpress category selection box?!? I’m preparing to be gobsmacked if you tell me it’s a Yoast box!

For future users with the same problem where the above screen grabs may not be visible any longer – choose your primary category from the ‘post settings’ box below your article editor and not the boxes on the right.

Anyway – thanks very much for this 🙂

Glad it worked. That setting can come from the Yoast SEO plugin or a different SEO plugin if you use one, or maybe another plugin that has such a capability. WordPress doesn’t have such a setting as far as I know.

If you have more questions let us know.
