target=blank opening two windows

We are experiencing what seems to be bug when including links that are set as target=”_blank” in the text area of posts using the Smart Lists feature.

The links do open the URL in a new window, but at the same the link is loaded in the parent window. Links with target=”_blank” work just fine in other articles and elsewhere.

Example
http://www.bdoutdoors.com/buras-marsh-media-bash-at-cajun-fishing-adventures/

Debugging efforts haven’t been fruitful but seems that it is related to lazy loading js.

Hi

I’ve test this on my side and works fine, please make sure you added the target="_blank" like here: http://screencast.com/t/Xppyb4n2 also try to deactivate all plugins, leave just Visual Composer active, clear the cache and test again.
Let me know how it goes and if the problem persist send an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your sites login details, so we can inspect this issue closer, also paste a link to this topic.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

– I disabled all plugins but VC and the problem persisted.
– I found some reference online to Google analytics outbound link tracking causing double windows open so I removed my GA code and the problem persisted.
– The html for link target is correct (and works on pages not
– I have the latest WP and NewsMag theme.
– I tested with both my child theme and unmodified parent theme.

I have set up a dev environment and will email credentials.

Hi, i’ve got the same problem with all my newsmag themes.

An example you can see on this site: http://www.gartentipps.com/rosen-pflegen-im-fruehjahr.html in the first and second list.

A click on a external link opens a new tab (this is okay) and the same external website in the post-tab (that’s not okay). I am very frustrated about this error.

Sorry for my bad english…

@RingoD
you have a *lot* of errors on your example page, including intellitext failing to execute, etc.

Look at your page source, for any external link it should be target=”_blank” or target=”_new” — if you’re using some kind of plugin to add that on top of default settings and/or you have numerous broken things (based on Chrome/Console F12 check), that might be the problem.

Hi @RingoD

That seams to be caused by a custom javascript so you can also try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test again.

Let me know how it goes.
Thanks!
