Theme changed to default mode / not registered anymore

Overnight our theme, which was activated and customized, changed back to the default mode. It is not registered anymore and we cannot change anything!

What we already tried:

• Deactivated all plugins
• Reinstalled the template via FTP
• Tried a default theme → that worked
• Manual activiation
• Checked htaccess / wp-config

Probably good to check your site security, and reset all passwords. Themes cannot “change themselves” overnight without somebody doing something, or some “automatic update” to some other thing breaking your site. (I base this on using WP since 2005.)

It’s possible your hosting provider had some breakdown, and went to a prior day backup.

Only option there is to recreate all your changes. Also, remember to make backups of all custom CSS and do regular dbase exports (from WP tools) after major changes for safekeeping. I copy out my custom changes to theme panels into a text file, so anything I did by hand in style boxes, or sidebars can easily be redone. Also, ‘export’ the custom styles/setting from theme to text file as well (from theme panel).

I don’t work here – just some feedback.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that we cannot change anything. The theme does not save the changes

Check error log.

Make sure you have at least 96M allocated to WP in both your php settings on hosting account *and* in your WP-Config.php file.

Resave permalinks. Clear transients with WP-OPTIMIZE

( I don’t work here. )
