Theme Install – Image links on 2,000 articles broken – this is urgent!

Hi guys, I’ve been running with your theme on my development environment to understand it all and get all the items prepared. I like the theme a lot and we’ve decided to go with it.

Tonight I’ve been implementing the theme on my live site. All has gone OK with the configuration, etc. I started to resize my images using the plug-in you recommended, then when I realised how long this is going to take I paused it…. with the intention of letting it run when I’m asleep.

Continuing with the widget setup etc., and I’ve been checking through the 2,000 posts we have on the site (many have lots of images) and I see that many / most posts have their image links broken.

This is a disaster.

Please can you advise as soon as possible as to how I can fix this. Is the paused Image Resizing to blame? is it terminal? (do I need to restore the backup?)

All advice awaited and needed! Thanks, M.

You are using jetpack , this is not compatible 100% whit newspaper.
first, deactivate jetpack and then run Force Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. 🙂

OK, I’ll do that and leave it to run for the rest of the night. Thanks!

argh – that plugin created so many versions my Db ran out of space! Maybe I need to rethink the Modules I’m using, cut down to just a couple…

Hey tagDiv guys – would appreciate your input please…. whenever I run Thumbnail Regenerate on my site it breaks image links that I’ve gone in and fixed!

(I’ve reduced the number of thumbnail sizes in use plus I still have a problem with images on posts not being the right ones)

So what happens is I run Regenertion, and look at my posts, and see random images appearing in the posts in place of the correct ones.

If I edit the post, then edit the image, the correct image shows up, so I can save this, and do it to all the images on the post, then Update the post.

And all is OK. Unless I do a regeneration, then the problem reappears.

(I have disabled JetPack as recommended by the guy above).

ALSO – since changing to your theme, I cannot upload any images to posts or to the Media Library; I get “The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads”

What this means is that I’m starting to lose confidence in the theme and thumbnail handling… can you offer some guidance please on the Upload and on the Thumbnail problems?

Thanks.

The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads

That is usually a permission issue, not theme related. Changing themes should have zero impact on that unless the folder was previously “owned” by a user or Apache vs the FTP user, which is normal practice. You can usually check ‘ownership’ via your file editor on hosting panel, and on some FTP software apps.

Usually easy to tell if a permission issue if you can’t FTP images to that folder either.

The regenerate thumbs plugin will generally *always* generate a thumb based on the single featured image assigned for the post. Some plugins like Auto Post Thumbnail Pro, can instead capture first image in post meta and make that featured image, which will then be the thumbnail used for modules/etc.

I don’t work here; just some feedback.

Ok, thanks Chris. Odd that only after Activating Newspaper should my images on my posts become corrupted, and I cannot upload animate to a new post… I’ll keep digging ….
