It appears the featured image for the blog posts are slightly cropped on that page – is there a way to stop this from happening?

If you are having problems with the images on your website, I suggest you disable all your plugins except Visual composer, clear any caching you have installed and check again, because a plugin is almost always responsible for image problems.
