I’ve having issues with the thumbnails for block resizing to the right size. They are being cutoff. I’ve tried using thumbnail regenerate plugin. Is there something else I can try?

Thanks

Hi

Images used in thumbs are cropped to fit the thumb size and depending by image aspect ratio the result can be different. The theme use center-top cropping system but if you want you can modify it to center-center if you consider that will work better. The file that need to be edited it’s td_config.php and you can chose the thumbs which you want to edit: http://screencast.com/t/rQCzeuHV

Thanks!

Hi,
I was hoping for a solution that wouldnt crop the images or if it had to just a little bit. It seems like my images are not being scaled down at all. Looks like they are being loaded into the thumbnail position full sized and then cropped. Cant I scale them with some type of box-sizing 100% auto or something like that. I see on other people website full size images are being scaled to fit the thumbnail box with out being cropped, I dont know what I’m missing.

Thanks

If you load a square into a rectangle, it has to be cropped into a rectangle shape … it cannot magically add white space to a bitmap to keep the original image centered and then magic whitespace on sides to fit rectangle. So, you kind of need to start with rectangle images to fit rectangle spaces. Everything works this way — try loading a square image into the top of your Facebook timeline cover for instance, it will do the same thing.

What *we* do for square images here in our news network, is in Photoshop drop them into a rectangle and then center the square image in the rectangle. For some stuff we knock out the backing and make it a light grey so that for our thumbs we have a “fill the space” image, meaning we don’t end up with a square image centered floating on white in a rectangle area, which also looks dumb.

Try it — make a rectangle in your image editing app, then drop that square image into middle; then upload and set as featured image and see how that works.
