I’ve looked on the site but I can’t find the answer i’m looking for. Is the a template I can copy over to the child theme and edit so that ‘Trending Now’ can say something else … like: ‘Latest Posts’ or just a symbol ‘>’. I’d like it in the child theme so it’ll stick around after a theme update.

You can change the title for news ticker from theme panel > translations: http://screencast.com/t/CG6XqLW8JZ Just add in indicated filed the desired title and the theme will display it also after updates.
