Hi,
I have made lots of modifications on style.css. Can I update the theme without the style.css file?

Hello,
Unfortunately you will have to update the style.css as well because there are plenty of css modifications between the 2 versions. You should not alter the theme css file as the re is a custom css box in the theme panel where you can add your custom css. You will have to re-add your customization to the new file as using the old one would break the theme style.
