After updating to 8.6 and using the child theme the theme panel gives a 500 error. If I switch to the main theme it works.

Hello tonejarvis,
Most likely, this problem happens due because you have changed the original name of main theme and child theme. Please leave the default name which is in the theme’s packet because if you will change them, the multi-purpose will does not work. Try to do this and let us know. (Newspaper for main theme and Newspaper-child for child theme).
