I am updating a highly customized site from version 2.2 to 4.0. I was wondering how the best way to go about this would be. In the live preview much of the formatting and layout seems to have been removed. I have no custom CSS.
I realize this is an extremely old version of the theme, would it be easiest to simply install 4.0 and rebuild from the ground up? Is it possible to limit the reformatting if i to update 2.2 to 2.3 then to 2.4 etc? are these theme versions still available?

Hi,
We changed the theme a lot from version 2.2. An approach would be to use winmerge to compare the unmodified version 2.2 of the theme with the modified one, identify and extract the custom modifications. Install the latest version on a local setup and reapply the custom code. Once everything is fine update the live server.
