Hi,
I’m currently on v6.6.2 and would like to update to 6.6.4 however I’ve changed a number of files manually and not entirely sure everything I changed. Was wondering two things:
1) Is it possible to know which files I should update (plus plugins I should update if needed) – for each version or at least, the last two updates..
2) How would I create a child theme, assuming I can figure out the files I customized.. (perhaps by file modified date).

1) Here you can see the files that were changed in 6.6.3 version http://tagdiv.com/td_deploy/Newspaper/changed_files_6.6.2_6.6.3.html and in the version 6.6.4, the only file modified was the td_wp_booster_functions.php file found here: http://screencast.com/t/oNWcNnmvIh9M
2)If you want to do a child theme, you have to install the ultimate child theme that come bundled with our theme and let’s start to customize it. For more details about this, please check our documentation here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/

If I update just the files changed in those two new updates – will it update the version it thinks I’m running, or do I need to edit that somewhere?
Regarding a child theme – I’ll take a look at the tutorial thanks! If I’m customizing maybe 3-4 files in the theme, do you think that would warrant such a step to make future updates more easily? I guess I’m asking, is all that work worth it – or does it even work as such, meaning I can just make sure those 3-4 files are not touched?

If you want to have the ultimate update, it is necessary to replace only the files that are changed and style.css file.
The child theme saves you a few updates but please notice that it no replace in totality the updates. When the update is coming, please ensure what kind of files are changed and if the files are exactly those that you have in your child theme you have to customize again your child theme.

Ok so you’re basically saying – its best to just get a list of files updated for each version and update all of those (assuming they are not the ones you customized, and at that point, you’ll need to update and then make the same changes) ??
In other words, the child theme – wouldn’t be that helpful in this situation?
What about after I make the file updates (assuming they aren’t the files customized by me). How do I get the theme to show that its of the proper update version – just so I can keep track of where I’m at?

The child theme helps you to keep the changes made by you for the future update but if your modified files are not changed by the theme in this update. Please notice that the style.css file is changed in every update and it is necessary to update your child theme that come bundled with our theme on every update to works well. If your files changed are different to files changed by the theme you have to replace only those files in the child theme.
