updating question

Hello,

This is my first theme that I have purchased and I love it. I have it fully customized to my liking. I was wondering If i updated to the newest version, does it overwrite all my settings I currently have setup. I’ve read up on installing the wordpress toolkit to update the theme but I am worried I have to edit the theme from scratch again.

I have backed everything up already but I thought I would ask just for future reference

nevermind I updated via ftp and everything is ok, but my version says 4.5d like the other thread. I will continue to check the other thread for a fix.

Hi guys,
I just tried to update the theme through Filezilla and it messed up the whole site.
All the colors disappeared, some widgets were moved down, etc.
I put back the old theme files and it’s fine now.
What’s the issue? Would it be safer to update via the Envato plugin?

Thanks!

Hi,

@mnguyen87
Glad you have managed to get it done. Please note that when you update your theme using the envato toolkit you will not lose your settings and customizations only if you have made modifications to theme files, in that case you need to remake your changes as the files will get overwritten and the changes will be lost.
On the other hand we do not recommend the update through the envato plugin as some issues where reported recently and better would be to do it manually via FTP.
Regarding the “4.5d version” of the latest theme please note that it’s not an issue we have added that by mistake.

@Branstone
We do not recommend the plugin as I stated above because seems that can cause other issues. Please make sure you update like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and after you update make sure you empty all cache and purge files.

Thanks

Hello Guys,

I have been using this theme for 3 months on http://www.afvalgids.nl
It really works for me!

After updating last night I noticed that the font family was al wrong.
I adjusted it trough ‘Custom typography’ in to ‘Verdana, Geneva, san-serif’
But I cant change it for page’s.
Is there a way to tell the theme to use ‘Verdana, Geneva, san-serif’ on the entire website?

Thanks and regards
Robert

Hi again,

So you mean to tell me that every Theme update changes the whole theme settings???
How come it can’t keep the old settings there? I don’t even remember all the changes I did to the theme, there’s a lot!
Is there any “easy” way to save the settings and then after update restore it?

Thanks!

Hi,

@RobertVerwaal
Unfortunately you will have to do this manually from theme panel for the available options and use custom css for the rest that don’t have an option. You can also do this by editing the style.css file and replace all font families with your desired font.

@Branstone
Only if you have made the customization/changes directly into to the theme’s files, your theme settings will not be affected when you update the theme. If you do have modification to the code you should make a copy of the files changed by you, updated the theme and make those changes again if the files where changed.

Thanks

Hi,
Is it alright if I update only the modified files via FTP?
Thank you

@pauline
I think that should be ok, but always have a backup file just in case if something goes wrong. What I would do in your case is if you have specific files that you want to overwrite. Download a copy of your original file and store it in a folder and go from there. Better to be safe then sorry!

@Lucian thank you for the reply. I read over most of the documentation and so far so good!

Hi,

Thanks @mnguyen87!
Glad it’s all working out for you!

@Pauline

If you are updating from a theme to another you can also use the patch provided with the files and replace only the modified files.
Please make sure you make a back-up of your current theme installation first.

Thanks
