I cannot upgrade from Newspaper v8.6 to a new version purchased today as upon uploading the new version, I receive a “critical error” message and the back-end freezes. I deleted v8.6 before uploading the new version. What can be done?

Please notice that you are using an very old version of the theme, we recommend to make a full backup to your website and database also we recommend to make first time the update on a staging website were to set your current version and make the update.
Also is possible to do not work correctly, in Newspaper X the theme builder is tagDiv Composer and all the pages and templates are made using this builder.
As a suggestion, if you are using child theme or other plugins, please deactivate them, install the theme via FTP activate the theme plugins from welcome section -> https://i.imgur.com/wmVoNmX.png cehck the website and only after that activate the plugins one by one and check the website.

Thanks for your feedback. In the meantime, I talked to Catalin at contact@tagdiv.com and she offered to take a closer look at our setup page. I supplied her with wp-admin credentials and CPanel access for both our staging website (dokumenattion.site) and the final domain (unser-mitteleuropa.com).
