It keeps telling me there is an HTTP error when I upload a PNG file, I can upload JPG files just fine to media but need to upload some PNG graphics.

Theme does not control media uploads. I can upload png files without any trouble, since we use that for logo and also in WooCommerce. Make sure you have enough HD space on your account; make sure your image folder is writable.
Try clearing cache, and also try uploading via the media manager outside of a post.
Also ensure you use proper file names — no spaces, no multiple periods, no high characters like ! ( * & % etc.
