with my old WP-theme I used the <!--more--> in every post. But with Newspaper the post only seems to be cut after a number of words or characters to use this as an exerpt. Is there a way to cut the post automatically at the <!--more--> if there is one found in the post?

Our theme does not use the more tag to show the excerpts. The theme uses a custom cutting system as explained here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/excerpts-introduction/

Sorry but our theme does not use the more tag for the excerpts. If you want to use a custom excerpt, you can actually ad it on each post here: https://www.screencast.com/t/99NbRo1G3hZ
When this field is used, the theme cutting system is bypassed and it will only show the content you add.
