Hi! This is my first day with Newspaper. I managed to convert a large site to using it from another theme. Everything went surprisingly well and site is running smoothly.
My question is about using child theme? The documentation was (at least to me) a bit confusing about this issue and so far I have not used a child theme. I am only semi-savvy when it comes to coding. Did I manage to screw things up already? 🙂

The child theme is not a requirement for your site. If you plan to make modifications in the php code, then the child theme is recommended. If not, then it is not recommended to be used. If you do however plan to modify the theme files, and to use it, please read this topic:

Hi Bogdan and thank you very much! Just to be clear, what would be an example for those changes to .php code? Manual changes to the code by myself or could the theme itself (or a plugin) do those kind of changes?

Please keep in mind that the changes mean only the code changes which are made by you and also, which are referred to the core files (inclusive style.css/not a plugin) which are designed to support child theme, according to our documentation.
