How do I get the backend viewcount to work for all posts? now they are all showing 0s
I do not want to turn on public viewcount on the front end.

Hello !
Unfortunately this option is not possible in our theme. Maybe you can achieve this with a plugin but we cannot reccomend anything since this is not a common request.
