I have a compatibility problem between Visual Composer and a third-party plugin (wp-views).
I’m afraid that the problem is related with Visual Composer 4.9.2, the latest release included in Newspaper 6.6.5.
A new Visual Composer version (4.10) is already available, but I’m not able to upgrade it having purchased that product with Newspaper.
Is it possibile to get that new release?

It will be included with next theme update once it’s tested as compatible, and not buggy or with security vulnerabilities.

it’s not directly connected with your theme, ok, but bugs and compatibility issues related to Visual Composer 4.9.2 (we’ve just found another one, this time with WPML plugin) are becoming really annoying: it is hard to develop sites in these conditions, having to disable and re-enable plugins to do tasks that before the last update worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, the WPML plugin is not a tested plugin and it is not found through our list of tested plugins as you can see here -> http://screencast.com/t/MvYoE9pBqaUN We have no idea about the functionality of this plugin and about the impact over the behaviour of the theme and we cannot provide support for this types of plugin, sorry!
Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure when will be the next theme update and the next update for the Visual Composer sorry! Our developers work hard and only they can decide the exact date when the update will be released.
Please notice that on every theme/plugin update you will be announced through mail.

I’m a bit surprised you have no idea about WPML, it is one of the most popular wordpress plugins for multilingual support, but it’s not the point.
I’m not asking for support about WPML: although not officially supported, it works quite well with Newspaper, I developed several multilingual sites using Newspaper and WPML, and in any case the compatibility issue is NOT between WPML and Newspaper, but between WPML (and many other plugins) and 4.9.2 version of Visual Composer.
I believe that also Visual Composer producer, WPBakery, has noticed that 4.9.2 release has some issues, and in fact the current version of Visual Composer is 4.11.
But I can’t update the plugin because I’ve purchased as part of Newspaper, that’s all.

Please do not get me wrong. We know about the existence of this type of plugin but we do not know about the functionality of this with our theme and we cannot say for sure if this plugin works fine or not with the theme because the plugin has not been tested with our theme, sorry. We cannot give support/technic information on something that is not tested with our product. Indeed, the latest version of Visual Composer is 4.11 but unfortunately, it needs some time until we officially launch this version of Visual Composer. The plugin has to be checked and it is necessary to adjust to our theme for better result and this lasts. Surely, we will introduce this in near future update.

thanks again for your reply, and, don’t worry, I don’t get you wrong.
what I’m trying to say with my poor English is not that I need support for WPML or Types, but that the latest Newspaper release includes a buggy version of Visual Composer plugin (because, I repeat, it’s NOT a Newspaper bug what we’re talking about).
In the past months, in a very short time you’ve updated Newspaper many times: I would have expected a further update also for a new version of Visual Composer, because VC is a key part of your excellent theme, and the current version generates problems that I’ve never had before.
However, I understand that you’ve to test external plugins: I sincerely hope that the test would end quickly, because it’s really difficult to develop and maintain my sites under these conditions.

thanks for the update, I’ve just installed Newspaper 6.7.
unfortunately, it does not solve all the problems I faced, but at this point the OTHER plugin manufacturers can no longer use the excuse of wrong Visual Composer release.

Please provide more details about what kind of problem you have in the theme. Before this, please ensure that these issues do not come from your untested plugins. Try to disable all the active plugins, leave just Visual Composer, clear all cache and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and rule out the conflicting plugins. It is possible that your issues to be due the interference between some untested plugins which you are using and theme. If your problem is still there after this advice and if you need more assistance in this regard, please provide your website URL so I can inspect it closer along with several useful screenshot so I can understand where exactly is the problem.

I am also wondering if I can use WPML for the Newspaper theme. Have you had any more conflicts with VisCom since the update? Even though it’s not officially supported, does it still work okay?

WPMl and VisCom are not tested with our theme so we cannot say for sure if the plugins will work or not wioth our theme. Tested plugins mean not just that we tested them but it means we are constantly update our theme to keep up with the plugin updates and maintain compatibility between the theme and the plugins marked as tested.

I understand Bogdan’s “official” position about tested plugins, but, as developer, I think that it’s quite impossible always using just tested plugin.
For example, in countries like Italy, where the English language is not quite widespread, it is often necessary to create sites that use two or more languages.
I confirm that I have used WPML and Newspaper across multiple sites, and that those sites are working, but also confirm that, especially in the plugin or theme version changes or theme, sometimes compatibility issues exist.
as also it happens with many other WordPress themes and plugins, however…
