Visual Composer GUI not showing in edit page/post

This is what i’m seeing

As opposed to what i should be seeing (taken from another site we manage that uses visual composer)

Any ideas what could be going on?

P.S. whether I click on backend editor or not the GUI does not show up.

Also, when I try to create a new page i cannot add elements into the visual composer

Hello maruks,

Here is talking about the Visual Composer shortcode which is automatically generated when you pull the back editor button. Also, please ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme and the latest version of required plugins which come bundled with the theme. Also, make sure that you are using the latest WordPress (4.6.1) version to bring the best results.

The controls showed up after I updated visual composer
