Web broken after theme upgrade

Hello,

I’ve uploaded the newest Newsmag theme (version 4.9.6) and overwritten the plugins we had using the ones that come in the zip file.
I’ve also uploaded the child theme (currently active).

Unfortunately none of them (main or child theme) seem to work in my site now.

The back office works but the front office shows the following error message:

There has been a critical error on this website.

UPDATE:
Site is back after I installed 2 missing plugins using the theme wizard.

My only issue now is that the posts thumbnails are missing and all I get is a default PNG thumb.
The photos inside my posts are OK but the thumbs used for instance for Related Articles are missing.

You were right.
The site came back to life after I updated tagDiv Composer plugin following the steps you mentioned.

Important:
Since I haven’t changed my DNS yet, you’ll need to edit your host file so farevela.net points to the IP: 31.47.77.24, like this:

ok, I’m trying changing the Permalinks but no luck so far.
Regarding the lack of Feat. Image: yes, many articles (Posts) don’t have and I set it up so the web grabs the first photo in the Post as Feat. Image… so I’m thinking that this could be the cause of my issue.
I mean, could it be that after the upgrade (of theme and plugins) this feature isn’t correctly set up anymore?
In other words: how would you advise me to set it up so, in case of no Feat Image, the site uses the first available picture in the Post?

Regarding the Feature Image:
I’m running the site now under Troubleshooting Mode.
I’m using NewsMag Theme and the only active plugin is tagDiv Composer.
Following your advice I’m trying to manually add a Feature Image to a couple of Posts (from different categories just to see how the theme displays those images on the Homepage)… but the image doesn’t get saved into the Post.

I just created this short video explaining the current situation:

In short:
If I disable NewsMag > Post Settings > Feature Image Placeholder , than I’m able to manually add a SOME IMAGES as Feat Image in the Posts.
For some reason, not all the images are displayed as Feat Image … this is really odd to me.

Any advice will be much welcome !!!

The Post that I’ve marked with the orange squares had a first image in the post that included this caption:

I deleted the caption and then this happened: the “farevela logo” showed up.
I set this in:
Newsmag – Theme panel > Block Settings > Thumb Placeholder

So, now, what would you do?
1. How can I fix this “caption issue”?

2. Why do you think the Feat Image doesn’t get saved in the Post?
3. And what plugin would you recommend to push a Feat Image using the first image in the Post automatically (when no Feat Image is selected)?

I deactivated and deleted tagDiv Composer and then installed back from Newsmag > plugins, cleared my cache but the issue is still here.

Update:
I just noticed that now the Feature Image in my posts doesn’t get loaded.

It’s been trying load for more than 5 minutes now in 3 different posts with no success.

For your information:
Newsmag > System Status shows no warning messages, so everything seems fine.

What do you suggest?
Downgrading to Newsmag 4.9.5?
Re-installing Newsmag from scratch?
Would you like to take it a look? I’m happy to give you Admin access (it’s a testing site right now).

New update:
I realized that we do have some Featured Images and they are displayed as Thumbnails… but only if the photos don’t have have captions.

New (simpler) scenario:
I’m now testing with NewsMag 4.9.6 (parent theme instead of my child theme).
I’ve deactivated all the plugins except tagDiv Composer (and tagDiv Social Counter
because at NewsMag > Welcome it warned me that I needed this one too).
I’ve reinstalled WordPress 5.6.1 just to make sure I’m not having any issue with WP.

Then I opened this Post:

It had a Feature Image:

… but since it had a Caption text, it didn’t get displayed in our Home:

So I removed the Caption (but kept the Title and Alt text because we need to be able to search for the images in the future).
I was able to save the Post but this is how it’s displayed now on the Home:

When I open my code I see that the SRC is empty, look:

Just to let you know, yesterday night I ran a full thumbnail Regeneration using Regenerate Thumbnails plugin (by Alex Mills) which worked fine for me in the past.

It took almost 10 hours and finished with quite some error messages.

I think I forgot to mention that the WP is installed in:
/cms/wp-admin

Regarding the missing media files:
This was my process:
1. I migrate the original content from IP 64.207.177.238 to my new server (IP: 31.47.77.24). The content by then was a full sync so both servers had identical files and structure.
2. Then I reviewed the site and everything was ok, so I decided to update the following:
2.1. PHP update from 5.6 to 7.4
2.2. WP update from current to latest 5.6.1
2.3. NewsMag Theme from current latest

It was just then when I realized the site had lost ALL the thumbnails, so I decided to contact you.
I tried regenerating the thumbnails using Regenerate Thumbnails plugin (by Alex Mills) which worked fine for me in the past.

I think I didn’t miss anything.

IMPORTANT:
My client is in a hurry so I’ve decided to do the following:
1. Erase everything and do a full sync / migration again
2. Review the new server
3. Change DNS so my client can start using the new server
4. Create a stage site (a copy of the site for testing) in the new server so we can update the website (WP, Theme and plugins)
I’ll contact you when the stage site is ready so you can help me with the Thumbs / Captions issue if it appears again.
