Weird: Menu Items and dropdown on category pages

Hi,

I have a problem with my category page. It might be a bug. When I display the big grid on the category template every menu item shows up. Even the one I didn’t publish in the main menu.

I found a thread with a similar problem but I couldn’t find a solution:

I am using W3 Total cache but only enabled the page cache (no minify etc.).

Team tagdiv, do you have an advice for my problem?

Not technically a bug …
it’s designed to be a visible menu for related items from the same topic; so if you had entertainment, and then sub categories like fashion, film, food. music … those would show there. When you only have main categories, it shows all of them.

Trick is to architect the site based on groupings of related categories, for example, here we have several sub categories of “music” and so only those related music categories show on the visible topics menu

Or, for, in our case, we grouped all the book, fiction, stuff together under “reads” and now only those related topics show
http://ga-ga.com/cat/reads/book-reviews/

Probably a method to “disable” that might be good for those who ONLY use single top level categories. However, many large magazine sites do “group” related things together in order to make navigation easier. So, I think that was the idea here.

Lucian, I still have a problem with the menu issue. The categories are pulled out of nowhere. I didn’t even set them up in any menu. How can I disable this behavior?

I think the new version of theme released today may have the option to disable that, based on the changelog info; but I have not yet installed it (busy messing with our ecom system and rebuilding indexes, and sitting here watching dbases convert for all of our client data from 2010-2015 … hence why I’ve had so much time to be a busy body around here lately …. ) 🙂

this problem only appears when I use the Big Grid. The categories are NOT set up in any menu (and they are not set up as subcategories). They just exist as categories because I am planning to use them as parent categories in the future. When I use another block than the big grid everything is fine. This is why I still think it is a bug.

Anyway, I will hide it via CSS (or will not use the big grid).

Hi!

As I said: I did not setup any subcategories. The theme is pulling them from the category section.

I set up several categories but I don’t use all of them for my one and only menu (again: NO SUBCATEGORIES for posts. Only the shop is using subcategories –> Funny, these categories don’t appear unwanted above the big grid)
