I was using newspaper 6.7.1 with header style 2 and everything was fine. now on Newspaper7 i am having another menu at the top which seems not to display properly.

Update;
– Seems like something is blocking the JS or CSS
– deactivated wp-rocket and everything displaying properly now
– activated wp-rocket, disabled minifications and nothing changed but when i deactivate the cache plugin everything comes back to normal. the is what i have been using with version 6 of the theme

Please make sure you only use tested plugin: http://screencast.com/t/3chTCZNwpkaP and clear all caches including the plugin, browser, cdn or hosting.
Untested plugins can create all sorts of issues.

I notice that you list Font Awesome 4 Menus.
It was useful to have icon in the top menu.
Since the last update, I tested and deactived it and icons still seems to appear! 🙂

I deativated also Better Font Awesome and instead of loading these fonts, I used the CDN link provide by Awesome:

Hi,
Both your issues are most likely related to caching. The menus and the icons from font awesome. Please clear all caches either from the browser, a cache plugin, a cdn server or the hosting.
I have tested the font awesome icons and they do not remain after disabling the plugin.
