When permalinks are anything but default with the ?, search breaks

It works totally fine in the theme demo, but in all installations I try as soon as you switch from the ?wp-id style permalink structure the search buttons attempt to go to a /search/searchterm which leads to nothing. ?s=search term also gets redirected back to /search/searchterm and fails. Is there somewhere in the theme files where this redirect is being set that isnt working? I cant be the only one with this issue, but Ive searched a ton and not found it yet.

Thanks!

hi,
wordpress handles this redirects, not the theme:
I have also tested and seems like the wordpress send the search string like: ?s=searced_word : http://screencast.com/t/1algAsJ9WEE

why do you want to change this? SEO? google will not write something in the search box and hit search

Thanks for you message.

No I dont want to change how it sends the query…wordpress does that by itself and I dont know why. Ill investigate and put what I discover here.

it was hide-my-wp. I had it disabled and uninstalled, but its legacy remained with a couple of the rewrites apparently. Thanks!
