In an old version of the Newsmag theme (4<), Sharing via whatsapp worked fine. But I recently bought the new version and since the update it has stopped working. Not even now, with version 5. This only affects shares via whatsapp. It is not a break for the size of the image, according to Whatsapp standards. Neither the image (thumbnail) nor the post description appears in the share. The og:image tag seems to be correctly added, so it works for other networks (eg FB, IG, Telegram). But it doesn’t work for Whatsapp. I’ve been trying to solve this problem for a year, without identifying what the cause is!
I’ve seen posts from other users with the same problem on Newspaper. And an admin recommended a Yoast Forum post. I use Yoast on dozens of websites and it’s not the problem as it works on all of them. I only have problems on the site that uses the Newsmag theme.

There can be other cases why WhatsApp doesn’t share the post correctly. The rest of the socials all have debugging tools, WhatsApp does not. Normally the issue is with the size of the images, in case the image is not displayed when sharing. But there can be other issues.
I checked a post from the website, Facebook sees the image

But trying it with WhatsApp, there is no image when sharing this post.
The og image meta tag is in the page https://i.imgur.com/WbzC5kO.png
And it is not too large. All the other socials use it, besides WhatsApp. I cannot explain why this happens however. The theme would have nothing to do with the sharing. Yoast loads the og meta tags, and the socials use them.
I had a similar case recently, everything was in order on the website, same as here, but still the WhatsApp share would not work consistently. For some posts it worked and for others it did not. I tried various suggestions found online https://stackoverflow.com/questions/19778620/provide-an-image-for-whatsapp-link-sharing And I tried with a default WordPress theme as well.
But no definite solution was found so far. If I would have a solution, I would gladly provide it.

I deal with whatsapp and SEO integration on many sites so I’ve been through the trivial issues like image size and the presence of “og:” tags. And this wasn’t a problem until we updated to Newsmag 4 version. Coincidentally, in the same update we migrated the wordpress library to external storage (AWS). So we blame the problem on AWS. However, even after testing other storages (Azure, Google) and finally returning the images to our server, the problem persists.
