Where Do I Need To Go To Add Code On My Website?

Hi, sorry for the newbie question. I’m trying to verify my domain and need to add a code to my homepage and wanted to see where I needed to go to do this. I see a lot of people adding codes to their websites but I haven’t been able to find where I need to go to do this.

Where do I find the header.php file?
Is that in the Newspaper folder that I downloaded after I bought the theme? If so, I’m not seeing it.

I believe I have found the header php file… but mine (http://www.screencast.com/t/gjacsLZg) looks different than yours (http://screencast.com/t/79hJsfNzs). Do I need to open it to a specific program?

But how do I add the code I need into to the header.php file? Do I have to have Adobe Dreamweaver or some type of software like that, or can I just open it up and paste it in?

I understand what coding is, I just need to be able to get to that point.

Thank for the tip about Notepad Plus. I downloaded it and have been able to open the header PHP file now. My questions now is once I add in the code from Godaddy (between the head tags) is that all I need to do, or is there another step after that?

Yes, that’s why I’m trying to add this code so that my website can be verified. I just need some help doing it the first time and after that it shouldn’t be a problem when I add or modify other things moving forward. I understand coding and what it does, I just got to get to that point. Do I just add the code and save the file and that’s it, or are there other steps involved?

You can use a ftp client tool like filezila to upload the modified file in your-wp-install/wp-content/themes/Newspaper, this is the root folder of the theme in wordpress.
