When I switch back to the child theme the site looses my navigation menu list, and all the widgets is there a reason why they aren’t held by the child theme?

Just to clarify, am I correct in thinking then that this Newspaper child theme is backwards? The customizations are held in the PARENT theme? Not the CHILD theme? So why would I want that? The rest of the world uses a CHILD theme to make customizations so we don’t loose all our hard work and customizations? is there anyone who can reply to me and share a response in non-coder language? I am just trying to figure out if I can continue using this theme the way I need to. If the parent is really the child then I’m not sure this is how I want to use this theme. I’m just not sure I’m understanding that content on the link you sent as clear and I think I am reading.
(I don’t work here). What I noticed with many WordPress themes is that the child themes do not inherit the customizations of the parent theme. With this knowledge, when I bought the newspaper theme, I just made customizations to the child theme right away. I also made some few customizations to the parent theme in case I have to switch from the child theme to the parent theme (such as due to plugin conflicts or bugs). In my thinking, the customizations for the child theme are kept separate from the parent theme, so you will have to modify the child theme from scratch (or try using this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/customizer-export-import/).
