I am very frustrated trying to update the sidebar widgets, occasionally they save, but 9 times out of 10 they just revert to the previously saved layout – any ideas?

Hello meathead,
The sidebars will remain at your frontend but the widgets will be inactive. You will find them at the Widgets section in an inactive mode. You should simply re-add them at the widgets. -> https://www.screencast.com/t/3KJJYW8p2uAf
