Will not Install on WP

When I try to install the Newspaper.zip file it gives me this

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.

Hi,

You need to increase the max_input_vars = 1000; value inside the php.ini file to max_input_vars = 5000;.
If you don’t have access to the php.ini file please contact the host administrator and let him know about this issue.
Hope this helps! Please let me know!

Thanks

That didn’t work. Changed it to 9000 to see if that would work as well, and still says its too large.

Likely good idea to check with your hosting provider, as that isn’t specifically theme related.

Also, I’ve found it actually works best to manually upload the theme files via FTP than to use the zip method due to sometimes “funky” permissions issues with different hosting providers. I’ve been using WP since 2006 (2005?) and the FTP method always works best, in my own experience, even now that we have our own web server.

This is likely not the culprit, but, for the zip, also make sure you’re only trying to install from the single theme file (Newspaper.zip) and not the “entire download” file (themeforest-XXXXXXX-newspaper.zip) which has the docs, plugins, changelog, PSD file, etc., as that won’t ever work.

The v4.5 Newspaper.zip file, btw, should be roughly 6.41MB (6,727,456 bytes).

Also note with some hosts

(1)
The maximum size is controlled by two PHP settings: upload_max_filesize, and post_max_size.

(2)
If running Apache with .htaccess file,
this “might” work adding these lines
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M
php_value post_max_size 10M
php_value max_execution_time 500
php_value max_input_time 500

I don’t know how to do all of that. Thats why I use wordpress, because its supposed to be simple and easy. I’d just like to have a refund and continue my search for a new layout. Thanks

You do realize it has nothing to do with the theme, right ?

Uploading a zip file to your WordPress site is managed by your web host, not the theme! Any theme will have this issue if it’s a decent size.

If I cannot use the theme then I cannot use the theme. I’m not tech savvy enough to go through files and mess with things so its better for me to just get my refund and move on. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to use the theme as I really liked it, which is why I bought it, but its useless to me as of now and will remain that way unless I can upload it – which I can’t.

Oh well, good luck with that. If you can’t learn how to setup your website to work properly with WordPress, you will most likely have a tough road ahead. Being able to communicate to your hosting provider to update the two settings for PHP, isn’t terribly difficult, and most people need to do this to run WP with certain hosting setups.

I’m sure the tech support folk at Tagdiv will be happy to help you out, however you go with this theme. We love it and have been using it for a year now.

My site has been successfully operating for quite a few years, never had an issue with themes until now. I spoke with my hosting provider this morning and they said the same thing which was to change the php number, which I did.

Yup; well almost 10,000 installs of this theme later, works for most people. Your mileage may vary. I’m sure they will give you a refund if you can’t sort out what is going wrong. In fact, they often offer to help you install it, if you’re completely stuck. As long as you’re uploading the correct zip file, and have the php settings properly setup (BOTH OF THEM: did you also adjust post_max_size ?), should work first time out.

Obviously nothing works for everyone. Wait for reply from Marius or Lucian.

Hi,

Thanks Christopher!

@nightwing2303

First of all I apologize about the delay on which I’m answering. We are sorry to find the you have problems with this and before you give up on this I want to clarify this as I think I know what is happening.
So, first please make sure you are uploading the right .zip file because the .zip file you get is this: http://screencast.com/t/Q0SZ8ZUcTd which contains all theme files like ../plugins/a patch which you use to update from the previous version/ documentation/ licensing/ child theme... so this is not the right theme file you need to upload, this one is: http://screencast.com/t/OiXSsFHEj0
This error The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini. which you’ve got when trying to upload the theme’s .zip file showed up as the default maximum upload file size is set to 10MB in your php.ini file and the whole .zip newspaper-ft.zip file has over 13MB. You can increase that value also if you like, as well as you did for the other one: http://screencast.com/t/ZEunYQKA
So please make sure you unzip the Newspaper-ft.zip file and upload the Newspaper.zip file and upload the theme again.
If you still aren’t satisfied about this we can offer you a refund. You will have to send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and specify that you address your message for a refund and also include a link to this topic.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the message and sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi Lucian

I have been uploading the proper zip file. Where do I find the php.ini code to alter? I don’t see it on the WP editor, nor did I see a section for it on the WHM.

Thanks!

php.ini file is not part of wordpress or the theme, it’s part of your web hosting account; you may need to put in support ticket with your hosting provider if you don’t have the ability to manage your php settings from your hosting control panel (e.g., cPanel, Plesk/Parallels, etc).

If your hosting account uses cPanel, this doc may be helpful – or see the docs for your particular hosting provider:
http://support.hostgator.com/articles/what-is-php-ini

Logged into cPanel, did what was said, uploaded zip file… same error message.

Hi,

Thanks Christopher!

@nightwing2303
Please make sure you try to install the theme properly: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes and also that you modify the right code/directive so when you edit the php.ini file search for the upload_max_filesize http://screencast.com/t/ZEunYQKA and make sure you save the file afterwards.
If you still get an error please confirm that it’s the same one as before because this should not happen.
Please let me know!

Thanks

It sounds funny 😀

@nightwing2303
If you do all this and still get an error please make sure you unzip the file and upload the theme folder manually via FTP, like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/installation/

Thanks
