WordPress 3.9 released

Just as a general note to all, as you may be aware – WP 3.9 was just released.

This fixes a VAST number of things in WP, but also introduces a number of “long time waiting” features such as managing media elements, HTML5 galleries, etc.

Some may want to upgrade prior to posting any more support tickets to see what WP actually fixed in core, which solves some things which are *not* theme related.

In WP 3.9 have disappeared shortcodes in editor.

Same issue here. Just updated to WP 3.9 and lost the shortcodes in the editor.

Just registered on the forum after updating to WP 3.9…no shortcodes when posting, but they work. I’ve just try [quote_box_center][/quote_box_center] copied from another post, but can’t see them when making new post. 😀 Hope there will be fix soon.

Same here. Also I’m experiencing problems with Visual Editor, it simply disappeared from the menu and the sprite images are messed up when viewing with Mobile devices.

Glad I popped in to see if there were any issues coming from 3.9 installs. This question is more to the other users than to the developers.

How quickly have you seen updates to the Newspaper theme to correct issues with WordPress updates?

The new customize tool which allow to configure widgets more visualy isn’t working with Newspaper theme.

In a first time, Visual Composer wasn’t working but after deactivate et reactivate all my plugins, it works fine.
No other bug for me for the moment.

Also good idea if having any issues with widgets to simply go to each and press “save” again. I tend to do this out of paranoia with each new full dot WP update:

1) resave permalinks (habit as it resets/touches the htaccess file which as the rewrite rules)

2) disable and re-enable plugins one by one; check for any error message on re-enable.

3) run wp-optimize plugin which cleans house on orphan meta, etc.

4) do tools > save all site data (if not already done); good to do before AND after any update especially if “database has been updated” happens with the upgrade.

5) once a month I do full FTP download of site in case server catches fire and datacenter hit by lightning and backups melt.

6) Check site in IE11/Win7-64 and Chrome/Win7-64. (Generally if it works in Chrome on Windows then Chrome, Safari and Firefox on Mac will work – and who cares about anybody still running IE on Mac!)

7) If needed for anything like missing widgets, go to appearance and just hit “save” and it resets it. For missing ads, simply hit “save” in the theme panel for each ad spot.

8) Finally, out of general paranoia I also look at the source of a sample post, to make sure the meta tags are not messed up due to the occasional whack-a-doodle bug in Yoast, and because we’re running mod_pagespeed and like to check things are not being re-written in some bad way.

Veteran WP users have their own checklist, but this may be useful to the newbies. 🙂

The only work around I have so far used is to click on the Text tab. Right now having to create new content with the text tab and not the visual tab.

The whole Appearance>Customize Page is not working anymore. The tabs would not expand at click. I tried to reinstalling the theme and all the required plugins and and now only “Site Title and Tagline,” “Navigation,” and “Static Front Page” tabs appear – and they are still unresponsive.

Same problem, shortcodes disappeared.

Don’t know is it bcs of 3.9 WP, but after missing shortcodes, now no matter how much I insert widgets in sidebars, they just gone missing. I did this couple of times, add them, then after about 10 minutes or so, they’re gone. And on my homepage block 2, doesn’t shows latest for category, just a random post from that category.

Got it for this not showing on my homepage latest posts, I turned on mega menu in one of the category with unique articles on homepage. 🙂 But, would be great if the mega menu could show posts no matter of unique articles. But still didn’t find solution for widgets that went missing 😀

I urgently need the “Appearance>Customize Page”, please fix it soon!

I don’t know if this is everyone else’s case, but in my website the disappearance of the shortcode option also made *all* shortcodes visible in the site.

That ruins the appearance of the site and our brand, of course.

When can we expect a fix?

-Customize Page/links do not work.

I am also having issues deactivating plug-ins. Not sure what that is about, it started doing it after the WP 3.9 upgrade as well.

I have also seen on my install that when I use the visual composer and try to edit content that the visual tab shows no content. I can only see content when I view in text. If I switch to classic I can see both visual and text but cant see the shortcodes drop down in the menu bar?

Also with the new font setup I have lost the ability to customise the font <h> settings which was useful in the old setup. Can this be added back in?

In Visual Composer Elements of Newspaper theme:

• no more access in visual Editor area
• no more TinyMCE toolbar

since WordPress 3.9 upgrade.

Although i really appreciate your good work and support on here and am sure you’re doing your work, but you could you please update us on the problem?

Having the same problem’s as everyone else.

Question, ETA on how long we are looking to wait (E.g. 1-2 days or a Week +)

Reason I ask is worth rolling back my server and working with 3.8 wordpress until it’s sorted.
