Hello,
You can make a back-up of loop-single 7. Simply copy it on your desktop and after the update simply replace the one on your server with it.

The current version of the theme works fine with WP 4.4.2 and the issue does not happen anymore.

Yes, WordPress finally fixed the bug they introduced in WP 4.4.1, which they fixed in 4.4.2 — the pagination issue was *not* related to the theme, but a bug in the core WP files.

You should make a new post for your current problem vs replying to an issue resolved 14+ months ago and does not apply to current version of WP. The thread you posted on was a bug introduced by WordPress and not related to the theme.
