I’m using a plugin called WP Watch Movies Plugin from CodeCanyon that creates a custom post type for movies. It’s easy as you can simper movies from IMDB. However, the plugin doesn’t use WordPress’ builtin categories or tags and defines its own set of categories.
I want to use posts from this to show up on home page but considering that I can’t select any WordPress category or tag, how do I pull new posts from it to the home page? Does VC not allow to pull custom posts?

You have this option on block settings panel which you can try: http://screencast.com/t/tw4p2pd2x but I’m not sure how this will work for you and you will probably need additional customization to this as the theme hasn’t been designed to work with CPT.
I also suggest you also try to find a plugin for this or get someone to help you with if you don’t have any basic php/html/css knowledge.
