WP Super Cache – My hosts won't support it!!

Hi,

This is the first time I’ve used your template on namesco hosting in the UK and I had some funny issues with it when I turned on WP Super Cache.

After much fiddling I found out it was because Namesco don’t support WP Super Cache!!! They are instead suggesting that I use Total Cache…so I’m in between a rock and a hard place. I either have to ditch their services which I have already paid a years subscription for OR, get the theme working in Total Cache.

My question is “Are there just specific elements of theme that don’t work well with Total Cache? If so could I look to use Total Cache on a limited basis?”

Here’s their email to me

Good Morning,

****** has asked me to take a look into the caching on the site for you.

We use a Varnish Cache on our shared hosting already, this means sites should be quicker than normal anyway.
However I can see you want to use a caching plugin from within WordPress

The reason the super cache will not work, is because its’ not compatible with the varnish cache.

We have been advised the w3-total-cache is ‘the’ plugin to use with Varnish as it is very compatible.

However I can see the theme you use is not compatible with that. I’ve had a look to see if there is any way around this;

But we’ve had an extensive look but the only workaround is to re-script the theme which is not possible for us – we are not WordPress developers or scripting experts unfortunately.

Could I just check what you are hoping to achieve with this? I may be able to advise other things that can help you.

Thank you

Hello

Here is my answer ->

Unfortunately, the W3 Total Cache plugin is not tested with our products and we do not recommend it to be used with our theme because this plugin is very complex and it seems that it does not work well with the theme, sorry! We have recommended in the past this plugin for version four of Newspaper but then just with the default settings. Our theme has been developed in a constant way and at the moment, we do not recommend the W3 Total Cache because can damage the theme and we cannot provide support for untested plugins. The only tested caching plugin is WP Super cache and it works as properly with the theme. As a mention, our mobile theme is tested only with WP Super Cache and with another caching plugin it seems that will do not bring best results.

Thanks for your understanding!
