1) Hello, I am using the WPML plugin to translate a site. How can I make sure that when translating a record, data from the “Primary category” is copied to the translation?
2) The translation plugin works on all pages except header and footer. Pages translated 100%. I tried to create a new template page, it does not work. I ask for help in solving this problem.
3) Where I can change this text?
4) The same task as in the first question, but for the string “Source name:” and “Source url:”, how can this be done?
Hi,
1. The primary category has to be set manually for each post, regardless of its language. Setting a primary category for a post in a English for example, won’t have any effect on the translated posts, one has to be set by you.
2. This is a somewhat related topic – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/translate-cloud-templates-header/
I see you are using a cloud header template, you can create multiple header templates and set one for each language. You can use the header manager to set the desired header depending on the language. For example edit the translated homepage with the composer and set a header that you craeted for that language – https://prnt.sc/qtvz5v Same for the cloud template for posts, categories etc.
For the footer page, in that topic there will be information about how it can be done. Should work fine.
3/4 Change them how exactly? Those fields are added by the theme, changing the actual fields will require you to make modifications in the theme files. If that is what you want, the fields are defined here – https://prnt.sc/qtw1da
You can set this information for each post, no need to translate those fields, if maybe that is what you want to do.
Let me know.
Thanks
1) I want the main category to be the one I selected in the column on the right.
I don’t want to choose a category in the Ukrainian version of the post, and then go into the Russian version and change it there. I need automation of this process. In order to transfer data automatically to the Russian version. This should also work for the strings “Source name:” and “Source url:”
2) I have created 2 pages Ukrainian (main) and Russian (translation). But when I switch the label on the site, the footer not changes, the Ukrainian version remains. Although everything else works.
Hi,
1. The setting on the right is provided by Yoast and will not be used by the theme. This is mentioned in the guide – https://forum.tagdiv.com/primary-category/
The theme provided setting is the one mentioned there.
Translating the post is like creating a different post, when the language is changed the post is changed. This means that all the post settings have to be set for each post, including the primary category, source and via, post template etc.
2. If you follow the instructions from that topic you can translate the footer page correctly – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/problems-on-sidebar-and-footer-translation-with-wpml/
Please try as mentioned there and it should work fine. Let me know.
Thank you!
