YouTube embedding and gdpr

Hi there,

do you have anything planned on changing the code for YouTube Video embedding?

As for the gdpr in Germany, embedded YouTube Videos are not allowed to connect to YouTube before the user clicks on the play button. At the moment I know only one plugin that does this job right. It’s called video embed privacy https://wordpress.org/plugins/video-embed-privacy/. There is another plugin for elementor called extra privacy for elementor https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/extra-privacy-for-elementor/. This plugin adds a notice before the video starts.

Do you have planned anything like this?

Hi,

That would not be entirely controlled by the theme, embedding videos can be done using default WordPress, that plugin could be a good solution in this case.

Nonetheless this will be analyzed and taken into account along with the other coming changes. We will take all the necessary and possible actions regarding GDPR. Thank you for mentioning it.

Hi Simion,

thank you for the quick reply. I installed the plugin in our staging environment. It works for videos embedded in the text but not for the video that is included via the post template “Video”.

It would be great if you could add this feature till 25th :).

Hi Simion,

did you already analyze the possibility to block youtube videos sending data that are included via the post format “video”?

If not, I will have to go through over 300 blog posts an change the blog post format :(.

Hi,

WordPress did not make any modifications in the matter of video posts, we did not make any. Surely that would not mean that all the websites that are using video posts provided by WordPress, now have to change them to comply with the GDPR laws.

I did not find much information related to this online, maybe you could specify the use of video posts in the privacy page if this would be required.
