YouTube scaling issues

I’m not sure if I’m missing something or not, but I think the dynamic scaling for the YouTube playlist element that changes along with the page width follows the size of the playlist or something else instead of sticking to the aspect ratio of the video. This results in the video thumbnail being cut off at times. We can sort fix it by setting a static video height so the thumbnail will be displayed at correct height and width when the page is at it’s maximum size, but that means the element does not scale well as the screen size shrinks. Am I missing the way to force the video element to scale using an aspect ratio instead of a pixel size? If not, I hope the team will consider adding this setting in future releases.

Also, we have noticed the YouTube embed size seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes the video embed will scale to take up the full width of the column. Other times it will follow the default embed size and will require a reload to get the embed to scale up properly. Is this a WordPress or theme related issue?

Hello @masterabbott !

Check this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/video-playlist-2/
If there is a problem only sometimes, then the issue could be from a cache plugin.

Thank you!

Hi Bettina,

I have followed the guide earlier, and it makes the problem worse. I think it is better to use an image to show the issue we’re trying to solve.

We are trying to get it to maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio at all times. If left at default, it will display something very close to 16:9, but not quite. As you can see from the image, if we set a video to a specific height, the video will stay at that height regardless of how the theme scales for different widths. What we would love to do is to have a setting that locks the width:height to the 16:9 ratio at all times instead of the slight off ratio that the default mode currently uses. If that is not possible right now, we hope TagDiv will consider adding this setting in the future.

And we will investigate the article embedded and caching issue and get back to you. Thanks for pointing us in a direction for this matter.

Hello @masterabbott !

Unfortunately, we do not have such an option in our theme.
We will take into consideration your query!

Thank you!

Hi Bettina,

We have tested the YouTube embeds using the code to bypass our cache completely. We are still having the issue. We have noticed it does not matter if you access the article with or without the cache enabled. The first visit will always be the default embed size and the second will be the correct full size. Do you have any other ideas what may be the cause?
