So realistically speaking, with the way Newspaper is coded, it’s not fully compatible with child themes, correct? In other words, by default WordPress allows any and all parent theme files to be child themeable but without full support from the parent theme it obviously doesn’t work.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, if I wanted to edit a function in /newspaper/wp-admin/content-metaboxes/td_set_homepage_loop.php WordPress does have the ability to do /newspaper-child/wp-admin/content-metaboxes/td_set_homepage_loop.php but without functions being called conditionally there’s no way to do that.

In other words, is there absolutely anything >I< can do that will allow tweaks to those “core” files and not have to worry about updating the theme wiping out my changes?

The theme uses all the sizes technically. That’s why they are in the functions.php. The question is what sizes are >YOU< using based on your block setup and such.

I suppose I should add, I don’t mean adding new functions, but rather changing existing functions. I know I could just change it in the parent theme but obviously that gets overwritten when you update the theme.

mehedi, this won’t directly answer your question but if you’re trying to say the ~10 image sizes that the theme generates is causing your uploading to be slow (due to being on a shared hosting plan) that is the least of your worries and I’d be more concerned if my website was actually hosted by professionals and not in someones basement on a spare Pentium 3 they had laying around.

I’d look for a new host, ASAP.
