1) The permalinks reset did not do anything.

2) Deactivating all plugins did not do anything.

3) The native WordPress buttons function causes the same problem. Therefore, it is not related to plugins, but appears to be somehow related to whatever the button underlying code is, as it is interacting with the theme. The mere placement of a button in a post, without any action associated with it, causes the problem. Deleting the button does not remove the problem, either. However, reversing the addition of the button with Undo (Ctrl-Z) does remove the problem.

If you delete all the internal links, the problem disappears. It reappears if you add them back. External links do not cause the problem.

This is not helpful. I know how to insert Jetpack and to use the limited formatting within Gutenberg. But Gutenberg will not, for example, allow editing the header tags for the subscription block; that is done at the theme level. The article you sent me to says “It may happen that an editor that comes with a custom theme or plugin prevents you from using the Block Editor. In that case, please contact the respective plugin or theme author for further assistance.” This is what’s happening. You’re the “theme author.” Please advise how to format Jetpack subscription blocks globally within your theme. Thanks.

I found that to get rid of the social links, you have to go to “Social Networks,” and the ones that appear are those that have a “#,” along with an error message wanting the details. If you delete the “#,” the links will disappear on the mobile menu.
