Strange Chinese Symbols Replaced Icons and arrows - reply

It’s the social media icons that have been replaced with the symbols in the header and footer.

I added the line of code to the htaccess file in my root directory – copied directly from the linked site and not this forum above all other lines – and using the wild card as suggested by @branch1.

The staging site is: http://wptest.brookeandsteve.ca/wptest/

Any advise greatly appreciated!
