Look at code/Newspaper-child in your zip file.
Theme panel -> import/export let you move configuration from parent to child

After installing and activating “Multi purpose plugin” the whole Theme panel is greyed out in my case. td_panel_settings.php generates exception in 22-th line.

I observe the same, unfortunately. In such cases (while publishing) in the apache error log I can find:

[Mon Oct 23 09:10:10.1010101 2017] [:error] [pid 21212] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32059] PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /xxxx/xxxx/xxxx/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_video_support.php on line 305, referer: https://xxxx.xxxx.xxxx/wp-admin/post.php?post=1234&action=edit

It looks like Newspaper has problem with taking thumbnails for some facebook videos even if they are public. Invalidated token?
