If I check the zip file from Newspaper/includes, it appears that the file hasn’t been modified since 2014, although the Newspaper theme is updated to version 4.5.

Can it be the same issue that other users experience too, meaning that the plugin is not up to date? The problem is that I can’t follow the instructions you give for updating the plugin, because this means I will have to readd all my content all over again and this isn’t a viable option.
